Táta’s Balcony
Cairo, from my memory.
Through painting, I returned to my grandmother’s house in Cairo in the mid-1990s, before I came to America. I was around seven. I remember the school behind its wall, the market beneath grapevines, the building across the street, stray dogs, horse-drawn carts, balconies, trees, and everyday life below.
I took those ordinary days for granted and missed them more deeply with time. Rebuilding the scene brought me back to her balcony and a childhood moment that still feels close.
